The Wedding Market is Saturated
I used to think that market saturation was just a passing thing… as the economy tanked in the late 2000s, the industry found itself with a lot of new entrepreneurs. Eventually, things will settle, right?
NOPE. A lot of those same entrepreneurs have grown up now and have awesome businesses. And, that trend of wedding industry entrepreneurship has continued to flourish – with new businesses launching every year.
I say: the more the merrier! BUT – the reality is that it makes it hard to SELL ourselves in a SEA of SAMENESS.
Recently I chatted with Brian Leahy about this. I wanted to know: is market saturation here to stay? This is what he shared with me:
The barrier to entry into the wedding space is virtually zero these days, so there’s always going to be more and more competition. We also work in an industry that will for the most part never be replaced by technology and will always need the human element, enticing more people to enter the market. Not to say that’s a bad thing. With increased competition, we need to use our unique voices to stand out from the crowd of “normal.” Everyone has their own story and perspective and I think it’s only going to get more and more important to share those stories in a more public way over the coming years.
