Why I Don’t Write Goals
We’ve written many articles about goal setting here. The other day it dawned on me: I DON’T write goals.
(What?)
You read that correctly. I, Michelle Loretta, teacher of goal-setting, do not write goals.
Goals are too ethereal for me… that thing you dream about but don’t always get done. I’m very much a person of action… So when I decide I want to achieve something, I plan out the steps to make those things come to fruition. I create a project and I chisel away at that project little by little.
Here’s the thing… I’m very much a project person. I create projects instead of goals.
Sales targets? Yep, got em. But I have a month-by-month breakdown that I look at each day so that I can achieve that year-end target. Plans to release new products and services? Yep – got those too. Only each service is a project with a time line. Personal aspirations? Yes, I’ve been working on a big one for the last 9 months. I’ll be taking 3 weeks off without a computer! (Egads – this one took a lot of work).
Here’s the thing…call it what you want: targets, goals, projects… if you’re not putting together the action steps, they’re only dreams at the end of the horizon.
Be a person of ACTION.
I love goals but I just have to break them down and come up with an action plan. Without a plan right?
EXACTLY!!!!
