Is Your Sales Approach Passive? Or, Are You Actively Selling?
Here’s the problem a lot of business owners have… they don’t really like selling. (I’m one of these people.)
You are a talented and creative person with a thousand entrepreneurial ideas. And, you bust your but to make them happen.
But, the sales don’t always come.
Here’s the thing… the idea of “If You Build It, They Will Come” doesn’t really work in business. You can’t just put up a website, print up business cards, put up your shingle, and expect that clients will come.
Selling services in the wedding industry is mildly passive because you are often not selling directly to the bride in the first contact. (Meaning: you are not cold calling brides.) Your sales approach (even tho inherently mildly passive) NEEDS to be ACTIVE. You need to be actively selling.
When I came to the realization that, as a business owner, I will never starve, it became critical that I be active in ensuring that I always have cash inflow. And, in order to do that, I needed to be selling, selling, selling… maybe not directly to the end user in the first step… but definitely to the people I come into contact with every day. And, sometimes I need to force that contact. You can force that contact through publicity (blogging, press), advertising, and networking. BE VISIBLE.
Do not sit passively waiting for the phone to ring. It will not ring. BE ACTIVE.
