Does it? That’s a harsh question. But, really think about it.
Think about your ads. Whether they’re a 2-page spread in a magazine or a small sidebar banner…
- Do they make people stop in their tracks?
- Do they pull people’s eyeballs away from reading?
- Do they invite people to learn more?
- Do they intrigue, tempt, or tickle the funny bone?
I hope you answered ‘YES!” with confidence to each one of those questions. If not, you need to revisit your ads.
Advertising can be expensive. And, if you’re not doing it right, you’re throwing away a lot of money. Business owners think that paying for the ad and getting the ad space will do the job. It’ll only do the job if it’s the right ad. Your ad has to make people want more.
How do you know if it’s the right ad? You have to test images and/or logos. You have to ask a lot of people… those inside and outside the industry. Ask the company you’re advertising with what they think of your ad. (They see ads all day and can quickly identify what’s attractive and what’s not. They also want you to succeed with them as advertisers.) And, if this is far from your expertise, hire someone to help you put together a professional ad.
If your ad isn’t bringing you the traffic you expect, examine not only whether that medium is the right place for your business, but also whether the ad is traffic-worthy.
What are your thoughts on this? What do YOU do to make sure an ad is a show stopper? How do you make people want more with your ad?
