Oh my, this would be SO perfect! You see, this Friday, Sept. 23rd is my last day at my full-time job before I light the world on fire with my own design studio, Weswen Design, where I design custom wedding stationery. It only seems fitting that my first “real” day could be spent stuffing my head with all the knowledge I so desperately need to learn. I’m more of the “artsy-fartsy” type and need to brush up on the most important details that will make, and keep, me successful! I’d love an opportunity to attend the Washington, DC session on Sept. 26th 🙂
Wow. You ladies ROCK. I would love to attend Law School for Wedding Professionals, because I have been working so hard over the past year on my re-branding, organization, structuring, systems, etc., and I could really use this additional education as both a foundation and support for my current set up as well as my future growth.
As a new wedding professional, I am eagerly learning everything I can about our industry. The legal side of running an event planning company is definitely an area of growth for me and Law School for Wed Pros would be the perfect opportunity for me to learn more about this topic. As a Cincinnati planner, I would like to attend the Chicago training. Thanks for offering this amazing program!
I would love to go to the Law School for Wedding Pros in Chicago IL. This would be a perfect opportunity for me as I am still fairly new to the industry and it would enable me to get good info up front as opposed to doing a ton of things wrong and finding out later. I would be able to start out in the industry on the right foot.
On a separate note-I have been following Michelle on this blog and twitter for a couple of months now and I have to say all this info has been so valuable for me. I am a “recovering accountant” and I am excited to see someone else from the same background as me in this industry.
Thanks Michelle for all the great blog posts. Keep ’em coming! 🙂
Regina
Oh this would be perfect! I am in a situation right now that I probably could have avoided if I had gone to law school 🙂
What a great idea! I would love to attend in NYC so that I could learn more about the legalities and liabilites of wedding planning and how I could protect my business. This is amazing!
This is so generous of you guys! I would love to win this scholarship and attend the Chicago training.
Just when you think you have your business all dialed in, Hurricane Irene strikes, and a wedding gets cancelled, and, and, and… I don’t want to get caught with my pants half pulled up again. I’ve learned a lot in a few short weeks but not enough about the big picture. I own and operate two separate businesses and thanks to Irene I realized I don’t even have a working contract on my 2nd business. This industry is not static, and there is so much to learn from a legal standpoint on many issues. I’m looking to educate myself on the bigger picture besides my contracts, so that I can move forward with confidence as an artist and business woman. I would love to attend the Boston 10/12 event. (Having met Regina Drury at Posh 2010, she is a great candidate to win as well :)PS There are also three big conferences/events that same time pd in NY and Boston 10/10-10/12 so winning will make my planning and decision easy 🙂 He he!
I would LOVELOVELOVE to go to Law School for Wedding Professionals in Los Angeles! I just started my wedding design business a few months ago and I am full of questions: how do I protect my designs/ideas with potentials clients? What do I need to include in my contracts? What is the best way to structure my business to safeguard myself from future issues? I could go on and on…
I’d love the opportunity to attend the Law School for Wedding Professionals in Phoenix, Arizona. I believe strongly in continued education for event professionals and feel the legal side of the business is an area I could use a “tune up”. It’s simply not enough to have an attorney draw up a solid contract, I know there are many areas that must not be covered that I need the knowledge to handle appropriately.
This is something every photographer needs. I would love to attend the Los Angeles class.
I would love to attend this event to see how my current contract stands up as well as if I am missing anything now that we have emerged into a digital world where copyright laws don’t seem to be a concern for many clients (or professionals).
I would love to attend this event in Chicago. I would like to see how my current contract stands up as well as if I am missing anything now that we have emerged into a digital world where copyright laws don’t seem to be a concern for many clients (or professionals).
Hi!! This would be amazing for me and my blossoming business! I want to be sure I am protecting myself as well as my clients!! Thank you for considering me!!!
I would like to attend the one in BOSTON!! Thanks so much!!
After attending Eventology a couple of years ago and getting a chance to hear a snippet of law for event professionals it became quite evident how important this is! Over the past few year, I’ve had to ensure that I am protecting the interests and investments of both my clients and myself. What a great opportunity this is and hopefully I will be able to attend the session on next week in Atlanta. Thanks!
I am really excited for The Law School for Wedding Professionals in Los Angeles. Katy’s blog posts about contracts and employees have been really helpful for my wedding planning business. Having the opportunity to attend would help my business greatly. My contract still needs a revision but I have no idea where to start. I often worry about the day that something goes wrong and it doesn’t cover me the way I need it to. Her recent post about Natural Disasters made me realize I need a “Force Majeure” clause but I don’t know where to begin. I’m sure I would benefit in many other ways as well. Even if I don’t win I will be scrapping up my pennies so I can try to make it. Thank you for your consideration.
As a new owner of an event planning business, it is my ultimate goal to make sure I have a solid foundation to ensure business longevity. I have followed this site for great insight on business management and I feel Law School for Wedding Pros is exactly what would give my company a greater and more confident approach. I also feel with this training, I will be able to provide my clients and staff with the upmost protection and service. As a wedding planner, we provide a service out of love and passion. The last thing you want to worry about is if someone feels jipped or mistreated.
I also want to make sure that business is just not a fly by night business. With my passion and drive, I want to ensure I have the proper set up my business. Not just for right now, but 5 years, 10 years down the line. I would like to have a better understanding of my options. As I mentioned before I want to make sure I am business for the long haul and unfortunately it is very hard to find a business professional with experience within the wedding industry to assist us. I feel Carrier’s law School for Wedding Professionas is a beyond fabulous idea and I hope to be the lucky one chosen for this opportunity!
The class closest to me is Boston, MA on October 12th, but if given the opportunity I will happily travel to New York for that session.
Thanks for the contest Sage Wedding Pros! 🙂
I would LOVE the opportunity to attend the Law School for Wedding Professionals in San Francisco, CA. I have been researching every aspect of starting my our wedding and event planning business and reading every book I can find related to the the subject (the Sage Wedding book list is most helpful with this!) but this course sounds like it would give me all the information I would need to start out. I want to make sure I start my business on a solid foundation so ANY chance I have to learn about this business I try to jump on, but in my current circumstances attending this course would be quite difficult. I appreciate your offer and love reading the Sage Wedding Pros emails I receive everyday. Thanks for the opportunity!!!
Awesome! I would love to attend Law School for Wedding professionals because i have so many questions abou the legal aspects of running a creative business. I would like to attend the class in Dallas!
I would LOVE, love, love to attend the workshop in Chicago. I am very new at my business and I know now is the perfect time to have everything done right from the start. I have some business plans in the work, but learning about contracts and legal rights regarding my business and my clients would benefit me so much. Thank you so much for offering this opportunity to attend! Thanks, Liz
I have been in business successfully for over 10 years, but took the last year off to go on a book tour of my memoir, which detailed the trial of my rapist. The landscape changed so much in that year – I am BACK with a vengeance and would love a chance to go to the Washington, D.C. Law School Day to ensure a smooth transition back with great advice. Thanks for a wonderful opportunity, Sage!
Attending the Law School for Wedding Professionals (Seattle)would be SO helpful! We’ve been operating our business for a year and a half now, and we are still learning so much everyday (and hopefully this never changes!) Since this industry deals with people in heightened emotional states as well as (sometimes) obscene amounts of money- it is best to dot your i’s and cross your t’s! We would so benefit from this workshop!
This is an awesome opportunity. Wedding professionals run into so many little “situations” that is awesome to know the legal aspects of running a business. Most of us are artists and don’t worry about this stuff. YAY!
I am so excited about this series that Katy is doing. I need to have my contract reviewed as well as draft a new agreement for my independent contractors and their confidentiality/non-compete agreements. I haven’t had the chance to attend ANY education seminars this year. Thankfully, that was due to a heavy season. I never win anything, but I’d sure like to win this!
Nashville is my city of choice. Actually, Chicago is, but I live in Memphis so NashVegas is closer. :-}
I’ve been working for wedding/event planning and design company that will close it’s doors December 31,2011 to embark on a new journey. The problem is that journey does not include me, so I have decided to take my jobless situation head on and transfer the company over to myself. I couldn’t imagine not designing and planning events or continuing what I love. The problem is I have no clue how to set a successful base for my company including policies, practices and protections. The other issue is money. There have been more costs associated with starting a company than I imagined. The workshop in Dallas, TX is only 4 hours from me and I would love to attend! To be able to attend Katy’s workshop would be an absolute blessing to begin my new journey! Thank you for posting this contest! Good luck to every entry!
Thank you for your generosity! Receiving this scholarship would be an invaluable learning experience and enable me to strengthen my education. For example, in addition to my accounting and finance background, I have always had an interest in law, and have contemplated attending law school. Your scholarship to attend the New York Law School for Wedding Professionals would only encourage me to take this knowledge back into the wedding industry a more aware business owner, and assist with me streamlining my photography business and Contracts. Having been in the wedding industry for the past 5 years, my ultimate goal is to become more knowledgeable as a business woman, improve from past mistakes,in turn helping me achieve one of my goals, which is to become a better expert for my clients. Mere words cannot convey the numerous ways your scholarship would assist me as I continue pursuing my educational and business goals. Thank you!
I recently had Katy help me with a situation. J was so grateful for her knowledge. I am hoping to attend in Seattle. It comes at a perfect time as I am rebranding and reorganizing my business.
What a great course, I want to make sure I’m on top of all the important stuff and would love to attend in Boston!
As my good friend says about dating-“You’ve got to enter to win!” Boston- will the Soxs still be playing on 10-12 is the real question. Good Luck All… BL
Oh man… I would LOVE to attend the Law School for Wedding Professionals session in DALLAS! I recently launched my own event planning and wedding consulting business after years in the corporate events space, and being a first-time business owner, I absolutely know that there is so much I can learn about protecting myself and my business with this seminar.
A seasoned wedding professional I am, however, I’m not shy about admitting that I don’t have all of the answers. As my company goes through many internal changes in coming season, I would be truly grateful to be empowered by the Law School session in New York on October 3rd. The information learned would be critical to our expansion and increased exposure in the social media networks. Pick me, pick me, pick me!!!
A seasoned wedding professional I am, however, I’m not shy about admitting that I don’t have all of the answers. The information learned would be critical to our expansion and increased exposure in the social media networks. Pick me, pick me, pick me!!!
I would love to attend in Orlando…hopefully it will keep me from getting audited by the IRS! ha ha I am so not a good book keeper or contract negotiator.
AWESOME!!!! I just came across Carrie’s site and I need help! This post came in just the right time. I am in the process of rebranding and also stepping back and reevaluating where I am with my business. A chance to win this scholarship is what I need right now. I am trying to reorganize and some legal advice is needed!
PS There are also three big conferences/events that same time pd in NY and Boston 10/10-10/12 so winning will make my planning and decision easy 🙂 He he!
Attending the Law School for Wedding Pros is a perfect compliment to the Sage Wedding Pros “Simple Plan”! I attended in May in NY and it was truly awesome. It made the process of creating/re-creating a business plan easier than attempting to do it alone. Having other Wedding Pros give you feedback was an added plus. The Law School session is the next step. I would LOVE to attend the session in DC or NY!

I would ℒℴѵℯ to go to the conference in Orlando, FL! I can totally drive the 2 1/2 hours from Jacksonville to soak in all that much needed, valuable information! Not to mention that gives me an excuse to get to have dinner with one of my favorite planners who lives in Orlando while I am there!

I would like to win the scholarship for Law School for Wedding Professionals because legal and PR are two areas where I need to to outsource. When it comes to PR I at least know how to write an RFP; not so with legal. Although, I’ve been in the Jewish special events industry for over 15 years, I am just now starting to work on my own–specializing in Bar/Bat Mitzvah planning only. I need to know the basics of writing a contract, insurance and liability. As well as the best way to set up my business to mitigate my husband’s financial liability in the business. If I win the scholarship I would attend the November 2 session in Dallas, TX.
This would be so awesome! I would love to win this scholarship and attend a full day of such helpful and useful information. I an a wedding planner and owner of a wedding planning business in Southern CA, so the Los Angeles workshop would work best for me. I’ve been in business since 2009 and would definitely benefit from this as I’ve been in a bit of a difficult situation with a fellow vendor (that went horribly wrong) and knowing how to deal with it legally would have helped immensely. I’d love to win this!! Thanks for doing this!
I want this, I need this, it would be amazing to attend this! I’ve done Making Things Happen to get my goals solidified and grow the courage to attack them. I’ve done The Simple Plan to organize my goals and make them into real business goals. Now I truly need a legal perspective to make sure my foundation is completely solid. I’ve been following Katy for a while and I would LOVE to work with her- she’s an incredible asset to this industry! I would love to attend in NYC, but I can do DC, or Boston as well!
This is awesome! Would love to attend the one in Washington DC. We had an issue with whether or not to hire an intern this summer, and got so much insight from Katy’s blog. It would be amazing to have the opportunity to learn in person 🙂
What an opportunity this would be! I just launched my company “Power Wedding Planning” in Green Bay a month ago. I have been preparing for this step for about a year as I stayed home taking care of my daughter. Going to Chicago for this opportunity would really give me the chance to learn more of what I have been studying through books, in blogs, and any other place I could find information.
Attending Law School for Wedding Professionals will allow me to establish a solid foundation in business, which has been my primary focus, before jumping into starting my own business. Being able to learn and gain valuable information from someone who is knowledgeable and experienced in the wedding industry is comforting. I’m confident that I would be well equipped and successful starting out in business, because of you (Katy) giving me the tools neeeded to succeed.
I would like to attend while you are in Atlanta, Ga.
Oh! Pick me!!! Pick me! I will sit in the front row and ask loads of really well thought out questions. Promise 🙂
Really though. I need to develop a new contract and make a decision about how to structure my business in the years ahead. This law school would help me to make educated decisions as I move forward. Yay! Boston or bust!
What a FANTASTIC opportunity! I would love the chance to attend the workshop in Phoenix simply because I *think* I have a good understanding of what I need to do, but due to the fact that I bootstrapped my business I haven’t been able to afford a “real attorney” opinion about what I’m doing. Thanks so much for bringing this partnership about!
Despite being a seasoned wedding prof, I believe continued education is imparative to running a successful business. I have been working on re-branding, re-structuring, and developing a solid foundation to secure my personal growth and success with my wedding planning company. Big ideas, combined with continued education = Great Success!! I would be honored to receive such a gift, and would love to attend in Seattle. Thank you for the opportunity.
I’d love to attend Law School for Wedding Pros because all things legal scare me, simply because I don’t want to do them wrong. And since the laws vary from state to state, I want to get it right. I’d love to know how I should write my contracts to protect myself and my business, and what is the best business entity to possess. I’d love to learn from Katy Carrier! 🙂
As someone who is a wedding professional who is also a member of a same-sex married couple, the amount of consulting with a lawyer I have to do to make sure my business, my relationship, and my family (current and future) is protected is overwhelming. Attending a workshop targeted at people in my profession could help lessen this financial (and emotional!) legal-consultation burden. Getting some of the basic understandings down will certainly end up saving me money! And so would winning free admission! Thanks for sharing Sage!
The recent wildfires in my area have also brought the “what to do in a natural disaster” to the front of my mind… for myself, my clients and their families.
I have spent more time on writing and re-writing my contract, and still I often question if I have it “right”. Being a newer business owner, I don’t want to question whether I have the proper contract in place to protect my business as well as provide my clients with clear, concise wording.
I live and work in Austin, but I would gladly make the drive to Dallas to attend on November 3rd. =) thank you.
Would love to re-write my legal documents, agreements, etc and have the great knowledge to do so.
I’d attend Orlando in Nov.
thanks for consideration.
joe
This is something I think everyone in the wedding profession could use. I would LOVE to win to attend the Los Angeles date! Thanks so much 🙂
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE this. I think is just what I need to understand all of the things I need to protect our business. Copyright registrations, etc. And I’d love to attend the Dallas one. 🙂
This is actually perfectly timed for our business! We have encountered a handful of situations in the last 6 months that have made us realize how much we STILL need to do to ensure that we are protected, regardless of the legal situation we may have as a husband & wife photography team. Starting with our contract, which is not at a place where we are completely comfortable yet. The October 17th Law School for Wedding pros fits with our schedule better than you could possibly imagine, as we currently have plans to travel to Chicago on the 18th for an engagement session! Put simply, both my husband and I are creatives who greatly lack in legal business knowledge.
I would love to attend the LA workshop. I have always worried whether our contract would have legal standing and I have no idea about commercial licenses.
I would be more than grateful to attend the Los Angeles workshop. This is essential knowledge needed when owning and operating a successful business and who would be someone better to learn from than someone who has had the opportunity to be on both sides.
I would soooooo love to win this b/c that is an area my biz still needs some help in! Pick me, pick me ;). Seattle
I would be all over this if I could. This program sounds fantastic! I have shared it with my facebook and twitter followers.
Unfortunately I still have a day job at MSLO to afford to try and run my business. Not much room for extras, if I did I would be at the NYC event in a heart beat!
Wishing you a great turn out. Hope I am able to participate one of these days. It would be great for my business. I would be able to spread the knowledge to the wedding industry pros so everyone can grow. All the best,
Courtney
I am new to the industry, and know the importance of the legalities… It would be fabulous to be a part of this!
This is huge to me…muy importante. We all get moving so fast just keeping up with clients that either the administrative, the legal side of things, or the day to day may begin to suffer. I want to have the confidence that I am doing things right and make the changes I need to in order to bring my business up to speed and opearting on all cyclinders. I would also love to go to the Los Angeles session. I have no events at the very end of November, and I would LOVE to work in visiting with some LA wedding professionals while I am out there!
Receiving a scholarship to attend the law school in Atlanta on 9/28 would be a blessing. I know that there will be a wealth of knowledge that will benefit my business. I have done research on my own and have taken business law classes but does not feel secure. This experience will equip me with that sense of security. There have been a few experiences which have led me to revamp my contracts but attending the law school will put a stop to the many revisions. Thanks for providing the opportunity.
I would love to attend the Nashville, TN workshop!! I’m trying to go full-time with my business and there are sooooooooooo many things to learn! I want to do things right from the start and I really need to learn the business aspects of this, as well as the legal implications of doing business correctly!
Thank you for the opportunity…I love your blog and all the great information you give. Thank you and keep on giving!
Noelle
Hello
I would love to attend Law School for Wedding Pros LA because as a brand new company it is so important to make sure I am starting with the right foot forward.
It would be awesome to win this prize because as a brand new company I also don’t have the resources to pay for as much training as I would like so this would give me a chance to grow my business knowledge network with other professionals and really see my business start to take off.
Thank you for the chance to win. This is such a great prize!
Would emphatically benefit from attending the Phoenix workshop of Law School for Wedding Professionals. We are an existing business that has grown leaps and bounds since opening in 2006; but we have never operating under a “contract” drafted by an actual lawyer, only one written by myself. Needless to say without the benefit of a legal background, I am not comfortable with our existing “contract” and would benefit from not only the course but the review offered. In business, you always have room to improve processes and your tools, so this would be a huge benefit and such an opportunity to attend. Thanks Sage!
