Last month I wrote about how your energy impacts your sales. If you are exuding negative energy it is going to have a negative impact on your business. I also talked about how to turn negative energy into positive energy. Today, let’s discuss what you talk about whilst networking. Thursday Therapy Chicago is launching this week and I know a lot of wedding pros are ready to get their networking on!
“How’s business?” asks the wedding planner.
“It’s so slow. I have no clients!” replies the photographer.
Every now and then I meet with a wedding pro that is soooo down about business. Listen – it happens to all of us. We have a slow month and we need to vent. But, if time after time after time you are complaining about business being bad, no one is going to want to refer business to you. It’s like the single gal that complains about not having a boyfriend. Sometimes it’s venting. But, sometimes it’s desperation and it’s not attractive. People are going to wonder why you don’t have clients and they aren’t going to want to refer you.
No need to lie.
I’m straightforward and honest in all my conversations. I’m always going to give someone the truth, even if it isn’t happy. But, I’m also a positive person and I know that positive energy has a good impact on my business – and on the people around me. Here’s a better way to respond when you aren’t feeling very confident about your sales:
Wedding Pro: How’s Business?
Me: It could be better, but I have this one really great client right now that I love. This client is getting married at Balboa Park in San Diego and I’m going to be able too design X, Y, Z for her wedding. Her colors are a lovely shade of fuchsia matched with a vibrant plum. It’s out of this world! Have you had any clients marry at Balboa Park? I just love it there.
Find THREE positive things to talk about.
If you are feeling down and out before you go to a networking event, you HAVE to make a game plan. It’s not going to benefit your business to talk about how bad your business is doing and how bummed you are. Find 3 positive things you can talk about with people. Write down the reasons why you are excited about those things. This will prepare you to get beyond your negativity and put a positive light on you and your business.
What strategy do you use before networking events that puts you in the A-Game?
