Kelly’s Intention for 2010
This week we are setting intentions for 2010.
An intention is a determination to do something or act a certain way.
We like intentions, as opposed to resolutions, because they are so much more mindful. We are intent on doing something in 2010.
When I think about this past year, two words sum it up: CRAZY CHANGE! I moved twice, had a baby, joined Sage Wedding Pros, and continued to grow my Wedding Planning biz (Sweet Pea Events). Needless to say, the word “rest” was nearly non-existent – both mentally and physically. A couple of weeks ago I got super sick with the swine flu (yick, I know!) and had a lot of time to reflect on some things that I want to change. I had a major wake-up call: I realized that even if I was healthy and physically resting (ie – watching a movie with my husband) my mind was still spinning. Instead of enjoying the moment, I was thinking about my to-do list and what goal I wanted to tackle next, checking my phone for new email/tweets/facebook messages. All this to say, I feel like I haven’t been “present” when I’m supposed to be – and wanting to be – enjoying spending time with my 8 month old baby Carson, chatting with one of my girlfriends, or listening to my husband tell me about his day.
My (Kelly’s) Intention for 2010:
With that, my intention for 2010 is to focus on REST in the midst of what is sure to be another busy year. Michelle and I have plans to take The Simple Plan across the country, which I am SO stinking excited about! However, what I do know is that when we have down time it truly needs to be down time. We all need to re-charge and I am always preaching that to other people…but not always do I take my own advice. So, in this New Year my goal is that you’ll hear me talking more about the following: treating myself to a massage, taking my son for a long walk to the park, reflecting and writing in my journal, enjoying a bottle of wine with a girlfriend, getting more involved at my church, not feeling like I have to multi-task while I watch a movie…and putting my family and friends first! Work is super important to me, but at the end of the day my loved ones need to be above everything else. If I’m not taking care of myself, I sure won’t be able to take care of them the best that I can. I’m off to do some yoga and REST my mind. 🙂
