Katasha ButlerKatasha Butler is the owner and lead planner of k sherrie + company in Indianapolis.  She is also the founder of Eventology, an annual conference to enhance the business and marketing of all wedding professionals.  I love that Katasha studied Chemistry and Pharmacy in college!  (She has a doctorate, people.)  But, it seems she was always planning weddings for people.  Shhhhh… don’t tell anyone, but she was even doing this in her pharmacy classes.  She worked for 9 years in the pharmacy industry, but the event industry always called her seductively.

Katasha began laying the groundwork for her planning firm in 2006.  She went back to school, took some business classes, became a certified wedding planner and interned under an established wedding planner in Indianapolis.  So… so sorry, pharmacy world… glad we have Katasha in our industry, now!

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

As I have gotten wiser, my favorite thing about weddings is the ceremony! Especially when the couples weave elements of their faith and love into the ceremony. Think–first communion as husband and wife, feet washing ceremony, three strands ceremony, etc. I am loving when couples truly express their commitment to each other and their faith.

What is your best tip for time management?

To-do lists! If you forget what you need to do, then you’ll always scramble when you do remember and it may be too late. Also, when you check things off your list, it’s a little boost that you are actually getting things accomplished. I am still a paper and pen girl. I write my list and make a check off box next to every item. I love when all my boxes are checked and I can go home and relax.

What is your little marketing secret?

My marketing secret is to sell me: as in sell Katasha Butler. I think brides and companies go with my company because they want to work with me. Highly detailed and organized people can plan produce great parties and weddings. Only I can deliver Katasha in all of her glory and magnificence (!) And with that comes my perspective, eye and candor. So I try to be myself at all times and in all settings and to all people that I come into contact with.

What is the funnest (most fun) trend you are seeing in the industry?

I’m digging the non-traditional wedding venues. Couples are getting married in theatres, duck-pin bowling lanes, government buildings, airport hangars and just plain, old beautiful places that actually have a connection with the couple and speaks to who they are.

If you were starting your business all over again, what would you have done differently?

Ummmmm. . .started sooner?!

Thanks Katasha!
